Frequently asked questions

How far is Mint from the beach and Santa Teresa center?

Mint is located about 500 meters from the beach, up a hill overlooking the ocean. You can easily walk to the beach but the way back will be a bit sweaty. Santa Teresa as a town doesn’t have a center but rather everything is spread out along a road next to the ocean. We are located about 10 minutes walk from a lot of popular restaurants such as Koji’s, Katana, Drift Bar and Banana Beach.

What time is check in and check out?

Check in is at 3pm and check out at 11am. If you arrive early or want to depart later, you are more than welcome to leave your bags in our reception and enjoy the pool area.

What is the difference between the Double Room and the Deluxe Double Room?

These two room types have the same layout but the difference is the location on the property. The Double Rooms are located on top of the communal area and the Deluxe Double Rooms are located higher up, giving them a better view and more privacy. Our new Pool Suite is located next to the Deluxe Double Rooms and has a different layout plus a private plunge pool.

What can I expect for breakfast?

Breakfast is served 8am-10am down in the lounge area where we eat together by the communal table. The breakfast is served buffet style and include freshly baked bread and toppings, tropical fruits with yoghurt and homemade granola plus our famous banana bread and all the coconuts and coffee you can drink.

What is the cancellation policy at Mint?

You can change or cancel your reservation free of charge up to 30 days before arrival. If you cancel after that we will charge you for the first night of your stay.

Can I bring my pet to Mint?

Unfortunately our two resident dogs, Puff and Khaleesi love being the only pets of the hotel but they did tell me to let you know they are here for all your cuddle needs plus cute photos.

How do I get to Santa Teresa from San Jose?

From San Jose I would recommend renting a car and drive (takes about 5 hours including a 1.5 hour ferry ride, find the schedule here and book your tickets online here). For car rentals we recommend Alamo or Budget since they have offices here in town, take a shared shuttle (our preferred company is Tropical Tours) or catch a domestic flight to Tambor (find flight tickets with Sansa, Costa Rica Green Airways, Skyway or Aerobell). From Tambor we can help reserve a taxi to take you the 45 minute ride to Mint for 50 usd. You can find Mint in Google Maps here.

When is the best time to visit Santa Teresa?

We have 3 seasons in this part of Costa Rica: Dec-April is the dry season with sunny days and almost no rain at all, May-August plus November is Green season with mostly sunny days and rain showers at night and September-October is rainy season when most places close down and we just wait out the rain. The weeks around Christmas/New Year's and Easter get very busy so if you are traveling these dates make sure to reserve your room and preferred excursions and rentals well in advance.

What to do in Santa Teresa?

Santa Teresa is famous for its’ consistent surf, amazing yoga and beautiful beaches but you can also go horseback riding on a huge private farm or the beach, try your luck fishing (Jonas came home with a 10 kg mahi mahi last time), zip line through the jungle, rent an atv and drive on dirt roads to nearby waterfalls and much more. If you’d like to reserve any lessons, tours or rentals just send us an email and we’ll help you out!here
